REPS. KELLY ARMSTRONG AND MICHELLE FISCHBACH CAST VOTES ON WEDNESDAY EVENING AGAINST A PLAN TO CREATE A BIPARTISAN COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE THE EVENTS OF JAN. 6., STICKING WITH GOP COLLEAGUES EVEN AS THE FULL HOUSE APPROVED THE MEASURE. SHE SAID “ANY INVESTIGATORY BODY TASKED WITH PROBING THE ATTACK MUST BE COMPLETELY FREE FROM POLITICAL INFLUENCE OR BIAS BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THIS PROPOSAL DOES NOT MEET THAT BASIC BENCHMARK.” THERE WERE 35 GOP MEMBERS THAT BROKE PARTY RANK AND VOTED YES ON THE BILL.

 

FORMER UND PRESIDENT MARK KENNEDY WILL BE LEAVING THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO SYSTEM ON JULY 1, WITH A $1.3 MILLION PAYOUT IN HAND, AFTER TWO YEARS OF HIS THREE YEAR CONTRACT. KENNEDY HAD INDICATED THE BOARD “HAS A NEW MAKEUP THIS YEAR, WHICH HAS LED TO CHANGES IN ITS FOCUS AND PHILOSOPHY.”  KENNEDY’S TIME IN GRAND FORKS ALSO HAD CONTROVERSY, INCLUDING HIS DECISION TO END WOMEN’S HOCKEY AT UND AND A DISPUTE WITH HIGH-PROFILE UND DONOR KRIS ENGELSTAD MCGARRY.

 

DNR SET A SLIGHT REDUCTION IN ELK LICENSES FOR THIS YEAR’S NORTHWEST MINNESOTA HUNTS. SEASONS WILL RUN FROM LATE AUGUST UNTIL MID-OCTOBER, AND THE DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR ONE OF THE 30 AVAILABLE LICENSES IS FRIDAY, JUNE 11. THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES WILL OFFER THOSE 30 LICENSES FOR THIS YEAR’S ELK SEASON IN KITTSON COUNTY OF NORTHWEST MINNESOTA, DOWN FROM 44 LAST YEAR.

 

NEXT YEAR’S 6TH GRADERS AT GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER SCHOOL WILL SERVE A FUNDRAISING MEAL, RAISING FUNDS FOR A CLASS TRIP. THEY’LL SERVE BBQ’S, CHIPS, BARS, AND DRINKS ON MEMORIAL DAY AT THE GREENBUSH COMMUNITY CENTER.

 

GREENBUSH-MIDDLE RIVER SCHOOL’S COMMENCEMENT WILL TAKE PLACE SUNDAY, MAY 30 AT 2:00 P.M. IN THE SCHOOL GYM. THE CEREMONY IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, AND EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR NELLIE WALLESTAD SEALY, FORMERLY OF ROSEAU, WILL BE HELD THIS SATURDAY (10 AM) AT THE ROSEAU FREE LUTHERAN CHURCH. NELLIE WAS 74.

 

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR FREDRICK “MIKE” YAGER OF BADGER WILL BE HELD THIS SATURDAY (10:30 AM) AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN BADGER. VISITATION WILL BE HELD FROM 5:00-7:00 FRIDAY EVENING WITH A SERVICE AT 7:00 AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH IN BADGER. INTERMENT TO TAKE PLACE  AT ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CEMETERY IN BADGER. MIKE YAGER WAS 73.

 

DIANE LYNN LARSON PASSED AWAY MAY 16TH AT THE AGE OF 67. PER HER REQUEST, THERE WILL NOT BE A FUNERAL SERVICE.

 

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR ADAM LYKKEN OF WARROAD AND FORMERLY OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY, MAY 26TH (11 AM) AT ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH IN WARROAD. VISITATION WILL BE ONE HOUR PRIOR. ADAM LYKKEN WAS 31.
