ROSEAU’S  ANNUAL CIVIC AND COMMERCE BANQUET IS MONDAY EVENING AT THE ROSEAU CITY CENTER.

SCHEDULED  SPEAKERS  INCLUDE ROSEAU SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT TOM JEROME;   POLARIS PLANT DIRECTOR NATHAN HANSON;   MARK KARL,  FROM KARL MANUFACTURING;  AND MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI –  WHO SAYS HE FEELS GOOD ABOUT THE CITY’S FUTURE.

 

THE RED RIVER FARM NETWORK SAYS AN EQUITY DRIVE IS ONGOING FOR A PROPOSED SOY PROCESSING FACILITY IN CROOKSTON.

EPITOME ENERGY HAS STARTED THE PERMITTING PROCESS FOR THAT FACILITY.

 

A COW/ CALF DAYS SEMINAR TOUR, LED BY THE UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA BEEF TEAM,   STOPS IN ROSEAU NEXT THURDAY  (January 23rd at Gene’s).

ERIC MOUSEL,  WITH   U of M  EXTENSION IN GRAND RAPIDS,  SAYS THE BEEF INDUSTRY IS THRIVING IN NORTHERN MINNESOTA.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR JIMMIE VISTAD OF HIGH RIDGE,  COLORADO  (AND FORMERLY OF ROSEAU)  IS THIS MORNING AT ELEVEN  AT FIRST UNITED LUTHERAN CHURCH IN ROSEAU.   VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR.   BURIAL IS AT A LATER DATE.

JIMMIE  VISTAD  WAS  61.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR KEVIN WILLIAMSON OF GATZKE ARE MONDAY AFTERNOON AT TWO  AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.   VISITATION IS SUNDAY EVENING  (5-7 PM)  AT HELGESON’S.

KEVIN WILLIAMSON WAS  60.

 

A REPORT SAYS NEARLY SEVEN PERCENT OF  MINNESOTA’S POPULATION IS EXPERIENCING  FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS;  THAT’S  A TWO HUNDRED PERCENT INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR.

 

UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA EXTENSION IS ASKING FARMERS WHO PLANTED CORN OR SOYBEANS LAST YEAR TO COMPLETE A SURVEY ON PLANTING AND HARVEST DATES AND YIELD  (AMONG OTHER THINGS).

EXTENSION STAFF IS HOPING TO ADD TO THEIR KNOWLEDGE BASE ON THE IMPACTS OF LATE PLANTING AND OTHER WEATHER-RELATED FACTORS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS A WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY IN ROSEAU COUNTY.

METEOROLOGIST ANDREW MOORE AT THE GRAND FORKS NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE  SAYS THE WEEKEND SNOW WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY BLUSTERY CONDITIONS,  CAUSING BLOWING SNOW.

 

ONE ENVIRONMENTAL LAW EXPERT SAYS PRECEDENT MAY HAVE BEEN SET THIS WEEK  WHEN AN APPEALS REVERSED THE APPROVAL OF KEY PERMITS FOR THE PROPOSED POLYMET COPPER-NICKEL MINE IN NORTHEASTERN MINNESOTA.

THE COURT SENT THE PERMITS BACK TO THE MINNESOTA  D.N.R. FOR A HEARING,  AND ATTORNEY SCOTT STRAND  (WITH THE ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND POLICY CENTER)  THINKS THAT RULING WILL EXTEND BEYOND POLYMET.

POLYMET AND THE D.N.R. ARE STILL DECIDING WHETHER THEY’LL TAKE THE CASE TO THE MINNESOTA SUPREME COURT.

 

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  THIS WEEK,   PUT ON HOLD A DECISION ON ACQUISITION OF ANOTHER HOUSE JUST WEST OF THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT.

THE SELLER ISN’T MOTIVATED,  AND THE SCHOOL BOARD SAID THAT PROPERTY ISN’T NECESSARY FOR ANY PLANNED RENOVATION PROJECT.
