THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  THIS WEEK,  RENEWED IT’S CONTRACT WITH AIR MED CARE FOR HELICOPTER AMBULANCE SERVICE.

THE COST IS SIXTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS  (THE SAME AS IN 2020)  AND COVERS ANY CHARGES FOR AIR AMBULANCE FLIGHTS FOR ROSEAU COUNTY RESIDENTS FROM THE COUNTY.

 

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL HELD IT’S FIRST MEETING OF THE NEW YEAR MONDAY EVENING.

THE COUNCIL DISCUSSED A LAW ENFORCEMENT MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT FOR THE PROTESTS RELATED TO THE ENBRIDGE PIPELINE PROJECT.

 

A WARROAD-BASED NONPROFIT CALLED  “HELPP”  IS HOPING TO ESTABLISH SIMILAR ORGANIZATIONS IN BAUDETTE,  ROSEAU AND POSSIBLY BADGER AND GREENBUSH THIS YEAR;

AND WOULD OFFER STARTUP DOLLARS FOR THOSE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.

“HELPP”  HAS DONATED MORE THAN  118 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN GAS AND GROCERY CARDS SINCE 2016;

AND DONATED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FOOD SHELVES IN BAUDETTE,  WARROAD,  ROSEAU AND GREENBUSH IN 2020 DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY HAS HAD LESS THAN A HANDFUL OF BELOW ZERO TEMPERATURES OVER THE PAST TWO  MONTHS,  IN WHAT HAS BEEN AN UNUSUALLY MILD WINTER.

GREG GUST,  AT THE GRAND FORKS NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE,  SAYS COOLER TEMPS ARE ON THE WAY; BUT THOSE TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR NORMALS FOR MID-JANUARY.

 

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR DALE  ERICKSON OF BAUDETTE,  FOLLOWING ALL MINNESOTA COVID GUIDELINES,  IS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT TWO AT WABANICA LUTHERAN CHURCH,  NORTH OF BAUDETTE. VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR. DALE  ERICKSON WAS  89.

 

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REPORTS ROSEAU COUNTY HAS HAD  JUST ONE NEW CONFIRMED COVID CASE SINCE SUNDAY.

 

ROSEAU JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS WILL BE BACK IN CLASS FOUR DAYS A WEEK,  STARTING FEBRUARY FIRST.

ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL HAS BEEN IN A HYBRID MODE SINCE EARLY SEPTEMBER, WITH STUDENTS IN CLASS TWO DAYS A WEEK.

SUPERINTENDENT TOM JEROME SAYS THE DECISION WAS NOT MADE LIGHTLY. TOM JEROME SAID THE SCHOOL BOARD WOULD MEET IN SPECIAL SESSION IF CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS SPIKE IN ROSEAU COUNTY BEFORE FEBRUARY FIRST.

 

ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL WINTER SPORTS START TONIGHT;  THERE ARE NINE RAMS’  SPORTING EVENTS TODAY,  TOMORROW AND SATURDAY.

ROSEAU HIGH SCHOOL IS ENCOURAGING PARENTS TO TRANSPORT THEIR KIDS TO AND FROM GAMES,  TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF CORONAVIRUS TRANSMISSION ON SCHOOL BUSSES.

 

ROSEAU COUNTY HAS THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS AVAILABLE FOR SMALL BUSINESSES AND NONPROFITS WHO EXPERIENCED HARDSHIPS DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC.

THE GRANT MONEY,  FROM THE STATE OF MINNESOTA,  WOULD BE DISTRIBUTED IN EARLY FEBRUARY.

APPLICATIONS WILL BE TAKEN AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY COORDINATOR’S OFFICE  FROM JANUARY 16TH THROUGH JANUARY 29TH.    APPLICATION FORMS ARE ONLINE AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY WEBSITE  ( www.co.roseau.mn.us ) OR FROM THE COORDINATOR’S OFFICE  ( 463-4248 ).

 

A MINNESOTA NONPROFIT CALLED  “BOOKS FOR AFRICA”  HAS NOW DONATED MORE THAN FIFTY MILLION BOOKS TO FIFTY-FIVE AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

PATRICK PLONSKI IS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR BOOKS FOR AFRICA, WHICH WAS FOUNDED 32 YEARS AGO,  TO END WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS A  “BOOK FAMINE”  ON THAT CONTINENT.
