RED LAKE COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH IS HOLDING A COVID-19 VACCINATION CLINIC ON THURSDAY, APRIL 8TH AT SEVEN CLANS CASINO IN WARROAD, FROM 9A-3P. THAT IS OPEN TO ANYONE 18 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER, AND IS BEING DONE ON A WALK-IN BASIS.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD, EARLIER THIS MONTH, HELD A PUBLIC HEARING ON A TAX IMPLEMENT FINANCING AND TAX ABATEMENT AGREEMENT WITH THE CIYT OF ROSEAU FOR THE PROPOSED ELEVEN-01 APARTMENT PROJECT. THE COUNTY BOARD APPROVED THE “TIF” AND TAX ABATEMENT UNANIMOUSLY. THE APARTMENT BUILDING, PROJECTED TO BE COMPLETED IN EARLY 2022, WOULD BE OWNED BY THE ROSEAU ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.

 

A U.S. BORDER PATROL AGENT FROM THE GRAND FORKS SECTOR SAVED A MAN FROM A BRUSH FIRE NEAR THE SHORT CREEK RECREATION AREA ALONG THE INTERNATIONAL BORDER WITH CANADA LATE LAST WEEK. LAST FRIDAY, AN AGENT WITNESSED SMOKE RISING NEAR THE U.S./CANADA BORDER, AS THE AGENT APPROACHED THE AREA TO INVESTIGATE, HE NOTICED IT WAS A BRUSH FIRE. HE THEN OBSERVED A VEHICLE DRIVING AROUND THE FLAMES, EVENTUALLY CATCHING FIRE, AND A PASSENGER EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE AGENT WAS THEN ABLE TO GET AROUND THE FLAMES AND REACH THE MAN, WHO WAS RUNNING FROM THE ENCROACHING FIRE. THE MAN ENTERED THE AGENT’S VEHICLE AND THEY DROVE TO A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE FIRE.

TWO BLAZES IN THE BLACK HILLS ARE SOUNDING A CAUTIONARY TALE ON AN EVEN EARLIER FIRE SEASON. THE SCHROEDER FIRE WEST OF RAPID CITY HAS BURNED OVER 1,200 ACRES, WHILE A SEPARATE FIRE NEAR MOUNT RUSHMORE HAS BURNED OVER 100 ACRES. BOTH ARE OVER 50% CONTAINED.

AN ERSKINE FIRE STRUCK RECEIVED HEAVY DAMAGE AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A PICKUP TRUCK DURING HEAVY SMOKE AND LOW VISIBILITY WHILE RESPONDING TO THE LARGE GRASS FIRE ON MONDAY. THE DRIVER DID NOT STOP AFTER HITTING THE FIRE TRUCK, BUT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE FIRE CREWS.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR BERTHA H. ERICKSON OF BAUDETTE WILL BE HELD SATURDAY, APRIL 10TH (10 AM) AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH IN BAUDETTE. VISITATION WILL BE HELD ON EHOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE AT THE CHURCH. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT HOPE CEMETERY IN ROSEAU AT A LATER DATE. BERTHA ERICKSON WAS 88.
