ROADWORK ON THREE AREA BRIDGES WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY:

HWY 11 BRIDGE OVER SILVER CREEK EAST OF BAUDETTE

HWY 32 BRIDGE SOUTH OF GREENBUSH

HWY 89 BRIDGE OVER ROSEAU RIVER NORTHWEST OF ROSEAU

THOSE ROADS WILL NOT BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC, BUT EXPECT LANE CLOSURES.

 

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD HAS APPROVED AN AUGUST 10TH PUBLIC HEARING ON A PROPOSED LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX.  PROCEEDS CAN BE USED FOR TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS.  IT’S ESTIMATED THE HALF-CENT SALES TAX WOULD GENERATE BETWEEN FIVE HUNDRED AND NINE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS ANNUALLY.

 

 

THE CITY OF ROSEAU MAY GET AN ADDITIONAL  141 THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM MINNESOTA HOUSING FOR THE ELEVEN01 APARTMENT PROJECT;  PLUS A LOW INTEREST LOAN FROM THE NORTHWEST MINNESOTA MULTI-COUNTY HOUSING AND REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.  CONSTRUCTION ON THAT 37 UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING IS SCHEDULED TO START THIS SUMMER.

 

 

THE CITY OF ROSEAU IS PLANNING AN AUGUST 5TH RECOGNITION OF LONGTIME FORMER MAYOR JEFF PELOWSKI,  IN CONJUNCTION WITH A GRAND OPENING EVENT AT SOUTH RIVERVIEW PARK.

 

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR EVELYN DAHLGREN OF ROSEAU WILL BE HELD THIS MORNING (11 AM) AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN ROSEAU.  VISITATION WILL BE ONE HOUR PRIOR AT THE CHURCH.

EVELYN DAHLGREN PASSED AWAY JULY 14TH AT THE AGE OF 99.

 

BETWEEN JULY 1, 2020 AND JULY 11 OF THIS YEAR, THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL LOGGED 17 CRASHES AT OR NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 2 AND AIRPORT ROAD IN GRAND FORKS, WHICH IS CURRENTLY A CONSTRUCTION ZONE. THAT DOESN’T INCLUDE A FATAL JUNE 2ND ACCIDENT AS THAT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE DIRECTOR OF THE MINNESOTA TRAFFIC OBSERVATORY SAYS THERE’S NO GOOD REASON THAT IT’S COMING ACROSS AS A DANGEROUS INTERSECTION, AND THAT THE CONSTRUCTION LAYOUT IS PROPER AND ALL WARNING SIGNS EXCEED THE MINIMUM THAT IS REQUIRED.

 

ACCORDING TO THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, THE ABNORMALLY DRY TO DROUGHT CONDITIONS OCCURRING ACROSS MINNESOTA ARE CREATING CHALLENGING CONDITIONS FOR PEOPLE TRYING TO GET THEIR BOATS INTO OR OUT OF THE WATER AT PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCHES. YOU ARE URGED TO CHECK THE RAMP, ESPECIALLY THE FIRMNESS OF THE GRAVEL AT THE RAMP’S END, AND THE WATER DEPTH, WATCH FOR OBSTRUCTIONS IN THE LAKE, LIKE LARGE BOULDERS OR TREE STUMPS, EXPECT DELAYS AT PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCHES AND BE PATIENT WITH BOATERS WHO ARE HAVING DIFFICULTY LAUNCHING.

 

SUPERIOR NATIONAL FOREST OFFICIALS SAY THEY ARE EXPANDING THEIR CLOSURE ORDER FOR THE POPULAR BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE AREA WILDERNESS NORTH OF ELY BECAUSE OF THE THREAT OF WILDFIRES BURNING ACROSS THE CANADIAN BORDER. THE NEWLY EXPANDED ORDER, WHICH TOOK EFFECT SUNDAY, INCLUDES 12 MORE BWCA ENTRY POINTS AND THE AREA AROUND LAC LA CROIX, IN ADDITION TO THE AREAS AROUND CROOKED AND IRON LAKES THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN INCLUDED.
