A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR JANICE BRANDEN OF WARROAD  (AND FORMERLY OF GREENBUSH) IS FRIDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN AT BETHEL LUTHERAN CHURCH OF GREENBUSH. VISITATION IS THURSDAY EVENING AFTER SIX, WITH A SEVEN O’CLOCK PRAYER SERVICE, AT THE CHURCH.JANICE BRANDEN WAS  82.

MEMORIAL SERVICES ARE PENDING FOR LESTER STORY OF WILLIAMS;  HE WAS  88.

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR JOHN MORRISON OF BAUDETTE WILL BE HELD AT A LATER DATE;    HE WAS  99.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WILL BE CONDUCTING AERIAL MAPPING IN NORTHWESTERN MINNESOTA OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.THAT WILL INCLUDE MAPPING IN THE ROSEAU AREA ON HIGHWAYS 11,  89 AND  310.THE PURPOSE FOR THAT AERIAL MAPPING IS TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AND HIGHWAY DESIGN.

THE MINNESOTA BUSINESS TAX EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP HAS A MAY   15TH        ( 8:30 A.M. to Noon)  SEMINAR AT THE ROSEAU CIVIC CENTER  ON UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE AND EMPLOYMENT TAX BASICS.

A MAY 14TH SEMINAR IS AT RAINY RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN INTERNATIONAL FALLS;  AND A MAY 16TH SEMINAR IS AT NORTHLAND COLLEGE IN THIEF RIVER FALLS.

ANGIE SWANSON’S  ROSEAU FIRST GRADE CLASS HAS WORKED ON AN EARTH DAY PROJECT THIS SPRING,  COORDINATED BY STUDENT TEACHER ALYSSA WAHL ….THOSE FIRST GRADERS WERE PART OF A LITTER CLEANUP ON THE ROSEAU SCHOOL GROUNDS LAST WEEK.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  APPROVED THE NORTHWEST SERVICE COOPERATIVE AS THE DISTRICT’S  HEALTH INSURANCE PROVIDER FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS.DISTRICT EMPLOYEES WILL SEE A FIVE PERCENT PREMIUM DECREASE NEXT YEAR,  ATTRIBUTED IN PART TO A YOUNG STAFF AND WELLNESS EFFORTS.IT’S THE FIRST HEALTH INSURANCE PRICE REDUCTION IN THE ROSEAU DISTRICT SINCE  2011,  AND ONE OF ONLY THREE REDUCTIONS OVER THE PAST TWENTY YEARS.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  HEARD FROM CHILD SUPPORT CASE OFFICERS;WHO SAID THERE WERE  568 CASES LAST YEAR, AND COLLECTIONS OF JUST OVER  ONE-POINT-NINE-FIVE MILLION DOLLARS.THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES RANKS ROSEAU COUNTY’S CHILD SUPPORT COST EFFECTIVENESS BEST IN NORTHWEST MINNESOTA;  AND WELL ABOVE THE STATE AVERAGE.

AUDITIONS FOR THE WARROAD SUMMER THEATRE MUSICAL  “TARZAN”  WERE HELD SATURDAY.  THAT  W.S.T. PRODUCTION IS SET FOR TWO WEEKS IN JULY.SPEED LIMITS WERE INCREASED ON MANY NORTHERN MINNESOTA HIGHWAYS EARLIER THIS YEAR  AFTER A FIVE YEAR STUDY BY THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION.

AMONG THE STATE ROADS NOW WITH SIXTY MILE PER HOUR LIMITS IS HIGHWAY 89 FROM THE CANADIAN BORDER TO RED LAKE. NATHAN DREWS, WITH THE OFFICE OF TRAFFIC ENGINEERING,  SAYS THE GOAL IS TO MAKE DRIVING SPEEDS MORE CONSISTENT;DREWS SAYS SPEED LIMIT SIGNS HAVE LITTLE EFFECT ….

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SAYS PROPOSED CHANGES TO MEDICARE PART  “D”  WOULD SAVE MONEY,  BUT OTHERS SAY IT COULD COST LIVES. SOME FORTY-FIVE MILLION AMERICANS USE THE PROGRAM AS A SUBSIDY FOR PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS. FATIMA HYACINTHE,  WITH THE BLACK ‘AIDS’ INSTITUTE,  SAYS THE PROPOSAL IS PART OF AN ATTACK ON EQUITY IN HEALTH CARE …. THE PROPOSAL WOULD REQUIRE MEDICARE PART “D” BUYERS TRY CHEAPER MEDICATIONS FIRST.
