TUITION HIKES AT UNIVERISTY OF MINNESOTA CAMPUSES WILL RANGE FROM 1.75% TO 3.5%. STUDENTS AT THE TWIN CITIES AND ROCHESTER CAMPUSES WILL SEE THE FULL 3.5% HIKE, WHILE THOSE AT DULUTH, MORRIS AND CROOKSTON WILL SEE THE 1.75%. IT’S THE LARGEST INCREASE FOR IN-STATE STUDENTS IN A DECADE.

THE CITY OF ROSEAU IS ASKING FOR RESIDENTS TO MAKE SURE SUMP PUMP ARE NOT DISCHARGING INTO THE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEMS BUT RATHER INTO THE STORM SYSTEM. THE CITY IS EXPERIENCING A HIGH INFILTRATION OF STORM WATER INTO THE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM, AND WITH THE FORECASTED WEATHER, THEY ARE LOOKING TO AVOID A BACKUP OF THE SEWER SYSTEM.

CONGRESSWOMAN MICHELLE FISHBACH, JOINED MINNESOTA CONGRESSMAN TOM EMMER AND PETE STAUBER IN SENDING A LETTER TO THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION COMMISSIONER DEMANDING ANSWERS TO AS TO WHEN THE FDA BECAME AWARE OF A NATIONAL BABY FORMULA SHORTAGE, WHAT THEY’VE DONE TO ADDRESS IT, AND PLANS TO PREVENT IT IN THE FUTURE.

IN RESPONSE, THE BOARD HAS OPENED THE NORMAN DAM AT KENORA, BUT WATER IS STILL FLOWING INTO THE LAKE AT MORE THAN TWICE THE RATE THAT IS FLOWING OUT.

PHOUTHASSA PRATHANE OF WARROAD HAS ADMITTED TO BREAKING INTO A HOME, SHOOTING AND TRYING TO KILL THE MOTHER OF HIS CHILDREN IN A PELICAN RAPIDS SHOOTING LAST MONTH. THE CHARGES WERE FELONY COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED MURDER AND BURGLARY. THE PLEA AGREEMENT, IF APPROVED BY A JUDGE, WOULD GIVE HIM A SENTENCE OF 183 MONTHS IN PRISON.

A FUNERAL SERVICE FOR VERNON “GIL” ROGGENBUCK WILL BE HELD MONDAY (11 am) AT OUR REDEEMER’S LUTHERAN CHURCH IN BADGER. VISITATION WILL BE AN HOUR PRIOR. MILITATY HONORS PROVIDED BY THE ROSEAU MEMORIAL HONOR GUARD. VISITATION WILL ALSO BE SUNDAY EVENING (5-7 PM) AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU. INTERMENT WILL BE HELD AT BADGER CITY CEMETERY. GIL WAS 90.

THE ROSEAU PIONEER FARM AND VILLAGE WILL BE HOLDING THEIR SEASON OPENING PACAKE BREAKFAST ON SATURDAY, MAY 14TH FROM 7-11 AM.

IT IS THAT TIME OF YEAR, TIME FOR THE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY POPPY DISTRIBUTION. THE WARROAD AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY WILL BE PRESENT AT THE LEGION FROM MAY 24-30, AT DOUG’S SUPERMARKET MAY 26-29, AND AT THE COMMUNITY MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE ON MONDAY, MAY 30.
