THE MINNESOTA HOUSE HAS VOTED TO BAN VAPING FROM BARS, RESTAURANTS AND WORKPLACES STATEWIDE. THE HOUSE APPROVED THE BAN 100-25 IN A MOVE AIMED PARTLY AT REVERSING THE GROWING POPULARITY OF E-CIGARETTES AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE. THE BILL WOULD RESTRICT THE USE OF E-CIGARETTES WHEREVER TOBACCO SMOKING IS CURRENTLY BANNED UNDER THE MINNESOTA CLEAN INDOOR AIR ACT, WHICH COVERS MOST PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND WORKPLACES. SUPPORTERS HOPE THE BILL WILL NOW GET A HEARING IN THE SENATE.

THE MINNESOTA LEGISLATURE HAS APPROVED EXPANDING A ZERO-INTEREST DISASTER LOAN PROGRAM FOR FARMERS, JUST IN TIME FOR PRODUCERS WITH BUILDINGS DAMAGED BY HEAVY SNOW THIS WINTER. THE BILL UNANIMOUSLY PASSED THE SENATE THURSDAY, AND THEN PASSED HOUSE WITHOUT OPPOSITION. IT NOW GOES TO GOV. TIM WALZ FOR HIS SIGNATURE. THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SAYS AROUND 75 BARNS STATEWIDE HAVE COLLAPSED THIS WINTER.

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  LAST WEEK, HEARD THAT WATER MAIN PROJECTS ARE PLANNED THIS SUMMER FOR AN AREA NEAR THE CITY CENTER AND THE CENTER STREET BRIDGE,  AND NEAR A POLARIS RE-MODELING PROJECT.THE CITY WILL ADVERTISE FOR BIDS, ALTHOUGH THE COST ESTIMATE IS SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER THAN THE BUDGETED AMOUNT.

THE MINNESOTA D.N.R.  HAS OPEN HOUSES SCHEDULED THIS MONTH ON DEER HUNTING AND DEER HUNTER ISSUES.THE FIRST OF THOSE AREA MEETINGS ARE MARCH 25TH AT THE ROSEAU COUNTY COURTHOUSE,  AND THAT SAME EVENING AT THE WARROAD FORESTRY OFFICE.ANOTHER MEETING IS MARCH  27TH AT THE LAKE OF THE WOODS HIGH SCHOOL IN BAUDETTE.

MEMORIAL SERVICES FOR MARION CARLSON OF RURAL ROSEAU ARE MONDAY MORNING AT ELEVEN AT HELGESON FUNERAL HOME IN ROSEAU.   VISITATION IS AN HOUR PRIOR. MARION CARLSON WAS  90.

A 25-year-old Lancaster man has been charged with two felony counts of criminal sexual conduct after allegedly traveling to Blackduck to have sex with an underage girl. CODY BERNHARDT IS CHARGED AFTER AUTHORITIES WERE TIPPED OF A MAN SENDING INAPPROPRIATE TEXT MESSAGES TO A CHILD. THOSE MESSAGES WERE REPORTED BY THE VICTIM’S PARENTS.

A teenager from Olivia is facing criminal sexual conduct charges in the alleged sexual assault of at least one young girl at his home where his mother ran a day care. The mother is also facing charges and the liscense of the daycare has been suspended.
